ShakeOut With Mill Valley Thursday, Are You Prepared For The Big One?

Get Ready to ShakeOut! The Great California ShakeOut Annual Statewide Earthquake Drill is Thursday.

Released by the City of Mill Valley
At 10:17 am on Thursday, October 17th, nearly 23.1 million people worldwide will participate in the largest earthquake drill EVER. Including 9.3 million California residents who will practice a Drop, Cover and Hold on Drill at the same time.

They will duck under a table or desk, cover heads/necks with their hands and hold on to the leg of the table, so if the table moves, they move with it. The U.S. Geological Survey tells us that there is a 62% chance of a magnitude 6.7 or greater earthquake in the Bay Area in the next 25 years.

That could be tomorrow or in 25 years. Our Mill Valley public safety officials tell us that they do not have the staff to check on all of us following a large scale disaster, such as an earthquake.

As residents we need to be responsible for ourselves, our families & our neighborhoods and Be Ready to take care of ourselves for some period of time, possibly as long as 5-7 days without power.

Please consider registering yourself, your family and even your business or interest group online aShakeOut 2013.
