From its opening in February 1928, the Sequoia Theatre has been one of the entertainment staples of Mill Valley for…More more than 80 years. First operated by the Blumenfeld Theatres chain, it was turned into a two-screen theater in 1975, and its operation was taken over by Pacific Theatres one year later.
In 1999, Pacific Theatres remodeled the theater once again, putting in high-back seats, upgrading the sound system and completely altering the lobby layout. In 2001, Pacific sold its Marin theaters to San Rafael-based Century Theatres, which now operate the Sequoia under its CineArts banner of art house theaters. The CineArts at Sequoia is the host of the annual Mill Valley Film Festival, held the first two weeks each October.
