The Community Church of Mill Valley was founded in 1925 to "provide a Christian fellowship where all who areMore searching for the meaning of life, regardless of background, might freely worship and serve," according to a church bulletin in 1969.

The church held services at the Outdoor Arts Club until 1930, when it moved to its current location at Throckmorton Avenue and Olive Street. The church established its denominational affiliation with the United Church of Christ in 1962. Today, five generations worship at the Community Church.

Perhaps the church's greatest achievement came in December 1972 with the creation and establishment of The Redwoods, the affordable housing retirement center that has grown to house 350 residents and become a vital part of the community.
