Known for its vast collection, a comprehensive local history room and an array of children's programs, the Mill Valley Public Library has long been an area institution. A number of reading rooms accommodated the town's early population, but the library really got off the ground in July 1911 on the back of a $10,000 grant from the Carnegie Foundation. The library was first located at the corner of Lovell Avenue and Madrona Street, with about 750 donated books.

City Librarian Anji Brenner and her team of reference librarians and volunteers oversee a collection of more than 132,000 books and an ever-growing catalog of digital content.
