This Weekend in Mill Valley: Sept. 23-25

From the Fall Arts Festival and a fleet of Ferraris to the two-day book sale and a host of tennis stars, there's a ton going on around town this weekend. See if there's something for you.

Friday-Sunday:

Held at , The Esurance Tennis Classic allows tennis fans to enjoy an up close view of pros mixing it up with amateurs and collegiate players in a variety of formats. The event benefits To Celebrate Life Breast Cancer Foundation and Youth Tennis Advantage. Joining the Bryan Brothers at this year's event are: 17-time Grand Slam Doubles winner and 2010 Hall of Fame Inductee Gigi Fernandez, two-time U.S. Open winner Tracy Austin*, current ATP superstar and 2010 AEGON Championships winner Sam Querrey* (Querrey is appearing in place of the injured John McEnroe), French Open doubles winner Murphy Jensen, the Stanford men's tennis team, which joins the women's team for the first time to compete in the World Team Tennis Shoot-Out and more.

Come see 50 Ferraris gather in downtown Mill Valley prior to the departure of the rally. The Ferrari Owners Group (FOG) Rally is comprised of 50 Ferraris that depart from the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge on a media intensive charity road rally to Los Angeles. The FOG Rally showcases Ferraris of all models and years and provide enthusiasts several opportunities for up close and personal encounters with the cars and their drivers. The purpose of the event is to raise funds for and awareness of the important work being done at Opportunity Impact.
If you go: View the Ferarris at 8 a.m. in  outside of . There will be a CHP escorted departure at 9:30 a.m.

Friends of the Mill Valley Library have been stock-piling books for this sale. There are more than 20,000 items including DVDs, CDs and audio books. Outdoors there are hundreds of books priced at $.25 for paperbacks and $.50 for hard covers - at these prices you can pretend the recession is over.
If you go: The sale is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the , 375 Throckmorton Avenue in Mill Valley. Please bring bags! They are suffering from a lack of donated paper bags with handles. Remember that a dedicated team of restockers ensures that good books are available all weekend long.

Saturday and Sunday:

is the setting for the , a widely acclaimed weekend-long event that for generations has served as the town's farewell to summer. The juried works include a wide array of prints, paintings, woodwork, photography and sculpture, and the quality is lofty enough to have gotten the festival rated one of the top 10 fine arts and crafts shows in the Northwest.

The Children’s Grove hosts entertainment and interactive activities for youngsters all day. Kids love the Fratello Marionettes, magic acts and live music. Stellar local music talent provides full line up of entertainment on the main stage. This year, be sure to catch the world folk music of The Palm Wine Boys and reggae sounds of Lumanation on Saturday and the old timey jazz of Miss Emily Anne and the Gypsy Jazz of Lou-Lou & the Gypsy Jivers on Sunday. Good food and drinks are provided by and benefit local non-profits. Best of all is the setting itself: a fragrant redwood forest at the close of summer, shaded by its mountain. Transition Mill Valley is inviting the community to jump on a bike, skateboard, or walk to the Mill Valley Art Festival in “.”
If you go: General admission is $10, $5 Seniors/Students and Free for kids under 14. The festival is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in , Throckmorton Ave & Old Mill Street in Mill Valley.

Saturday:

Learn the basics of how to create a successful organic vegetable garden during the cool months of the year with instructor and Master Gardener, Joan Irwin. Prepare your soil, select your plants and grow healthy vegetables for you and your family to enjoy.
If you go: The class is $5; to register click here. The class is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the , 203 Marin Avenue in Mill Valley.

Saturday and Sunday:

The community is invited to attend the first Bay Area "Cirque du Sea" appearances by the French acrobatic sailing couple, Franck Rabilier and Delphine Lechifflart this weekend. The husband and wife team use the mast, boom, rigging and other parts of their 40’ sailboat, La Loupiote, to perform aerial acrobatics shows for audiences around the world. Inspired by their love of the circus, dance and theater combined with a passion for sailing, the couple are currently performing two 20-minute shows — "The Navigators," a Buster Keaton-influenced parody that pokes fun at “maladroit” sailors, and "Between Wing and Island," a romantic duet.
If you go: The duo will perform free shows at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday on the Bay at KKMI Marine Services in Clipper Yacht Harbor located at 420 Harbor Drive in Sausalito. The shows are appropriate for all ages.
