This Weekend in Mill Valley: Aug. 5-7

From outdoor adventure and improv comedy to the songwriter of "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer," we've got you covered this weekend.

Friday:

The continues its year-long First Fridays series with that the story of adventurer and environmental activist , a former National Geographic Adventurer of the Year. Jennings travels to remote areas of the world, often engaging in extreme adventures. His mission? To give voice to unarticulated narratives. How does plunging off a 55-foot waterfall or surviving crocodile attacks relate to conservation? Is his narrative authentic or a cover for a thrill-seeking addict? Using video clips and photos, Trip will weave a tale of high adventure and extreme danger with altruistic aspirations and explain how he hopes his exploits can help save the planet.

, the critically acclaimed improvisational trio of Rafe Chase, Stephen Kearin and Tim Orr, return to the  this weekend. The wildly popular trio is known for their unique blend of intensely dramatic and outrageously funny, completely improvised scenes based on audience suggestions. Their high-stakes improv has thrilled audiences since they hit the stage in 1996 and they continue to play to sold-out houses and rave audience reviews in the San Francisco Bay Area as well as Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Austin, Atlanta, Finland and Amsterdam. Come and see what all the hullaballoo’s about.

Wild Blue, Marin's premier bluegrass band, mixes bluegrass classics and originals with folk and country songs into an entertaining and energetic show for audiences of all ages. Wild Blue is led by Dr. Elmo, whose holiday hit "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" has been the most popular Christmas song in the nation for the past 30 years, having sold over 10 million copies. Originally from the state of Kentucky - the birthplace of bluegrass music - he has been living in Marin for more than 40 years. He is a veterinarian, plays the banjo and is one of the band's lead vocalists. Slip your boots on and get dancin'.
If you go: Creekside Friday is free and swinging between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m at Tennessee Valley Cabin, 60 Tennessee Valley Road. Ride your bike or park at (203 Marin Ave.) or . No outside alcohol is allowed. A variety of barbecue specials, including burgers and veggie burgers, are available for sale along with wine, beer and sodas.

Saturday:

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the American Cancer Society's community walk to raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer. The Making Strides event is not a race; it is a celebration of survivorship, an occasion to express hope, and a shared goal to end a disease that threatens the lives of so many people we love. All individuals and teams are welcome.
