This Conservative says Yes on B for Mill Valley schools

Yes on Measure B, from a Mill Valley Conservative who supports this tax

One of the many misperceptions the media and Democrats (which are often confused as the same group) paint of the Republicans, is that they are NOT supporters of (public) education.

Being fiscally responsible, and asking for accountability have become another way for the Democrats to paint the Republicans as anti-education. President Obama frequently mentions how we could save money from one area of government (Military is often cited) and “invest in education”. His spin comes off as though the Republicans just don’t give a damn about education. It’s time for us to the right of center to (once again) prove him wrong and put our money where our mouths are.

We on the right in Mill Valley are no less supportive of education and we will prove it by whole heartedly voting “YES on B”, in the election next week.  It terms of the California electoral vote for president, and our district congressman, the GOP has no chance, yet don’t let that keep you from the ballot box! Yes on B needs 67 percent of the vote to pass, no easy task. Your vote does make a difference for other initiatives, and most important as I point out here, a YES ON B vote for Mill Valley schools.

Measure B (“Yes on B”) is a local tax to be paid for by homeowners in Mill Valley. (If you are a Mill Valley home owner over 65 years old, you will be exempt.) It will raise close to 2 million dollars a year and help maintain the high standard our public schools have established.  A Yes on Measure B will provide funding so public schools can continue to hire top of the line teachers by offering competitive salaries. It will also help maintain library services, and continue PE classes at elementary schools.

KIDDO does a great job in continuing their financial support of the arts and music programs. Yet, the MV schools are coming up a little short on the cash they need to maintain their excellence. The passing of measure B will NOT INCREASE funds to the coffers of the Mill Valley school district.  It will simply replace the funds that the broken-down state of California have traditionally provided.

I encourage single families, and empty nesters to look at the big picture.  Even if your kids are long out of the house, or you are a family without children, please continue to support the greatest public school district in the state.

Unlike the federal government and state government, these funds will not be ciphered off to other silly programs or wasted on meaningless studies and special interest groups. Your yearly tax of $196 will be a great investment to our wonderful community of Mill Valley.
