2013 Mill Valley Walk Into History

The 2013 annual walk into history, hosted by the Mill Valley Historical Society will consist of a loop around Cascade Canyon. This is the third in a series of articles, giving a tease on some of the homes the guest walkers will see. The house that currently sits at 519 was built in 1925. It was built by Harvey Klyce, who lived right next door. Yet, as Paul Harvey would have said, if you take the tour you’ll be told more about what was on this lot BEFORE 1925. You will learn, “The REST of the story”. In brief, to wet your appetite, a large hotel once stood on this site. It was the days before automobiles and guests were brought up (about a mile from downtown) to this location via horse and buggy. The hotel had a dining room that seated 100 guests. Join the Mill Valley Historical walk this coming Sunday to learn the rest of the story about 519 Throckmorton. Your tour guides will also be carrying historic photos of what many of the houses looked like in their early days, including the Monte Vista Hotel, that was one day the resident of 519 Throckmorton. The History walk groups will form at the Outdoor Art Club on Sunday, May 26, 2013. Guests will be shuttle bused up to and from home at 565 Throckmorton, known as “Burlwwood”. The first group leaves the OAC at 9:30, and the final group leaves at 3:30. No reservations are needed. Visit the Mill Valley Historical society web site for more details. http://www.mvhistory.org/
