One Bay Area Plan - Not What it Seems

The OBA Plan promises greater equity for low-income residents, but it doesn't deliver. In fact, it will make things worse!

Many well-intentioned agencies serving senior, low-income, and minority groups have been speaking out in favor of the One Bay Area plan. They've gone so far as to accuse people raising legitimate questions about the plan as racist, NIMBYs, and members of the Tea Party.

What they may not realize is that the promises of One Bay Area plan are deceptive and empty. In their analysis in "Plan Bay Area/Draft" ABAG/MTC concludes the Plan moves in the opposite direction from the target for Equitable Access.

In their own language, they describe the failure of the plan. "Plan moves in wrong direction; the share of household income needed to cover transporation and housing costs is projected to rise to 69 percent for low-income and lower-middle income residents during the Plan Bay Area period" (p. 108).

Yes, the Plan will support "building" more high-density housing. It's just that it will actaully be less affordable to the people who live in it. Developers, financers, bankers--the 1%--will get richer for building the properities, but people in poverty will be required to sink more of their limited income into housing and transportation than they do now.

The One Bay Area Plan is not what it seems.  Attend the Marin meeting on Monday, April 29 from 6:00-9:00 pm at the Marin Civic Center and learn more.
