Poll: How Will You Get to Giants Games When Parking Meter Rates Go Up?

Rates on parking meters near AT&T Park, a cheap alternative for some Giants games, are getting a big increase.

Starting this summer and continuing into 2013, fans driving to San Francisco Giants games will have to pay more for parking on some streets near the ballpark, according to a story in the San Francisco Chronicle.

The story says:

The city's plan is to install about 200 new parking meters in the Mission Bay area south of the ballpark in the next few weeks, all initially carrying rates from 25 cents to $1.25 an hour, which could be adjusted slightly up or down every six weeks.

Then next spring, the prices on all the meters in Mission Bay and in a 10-square-block area west of the ballpark will rise to $5 to $7 an hour during games and other special events. Operating hours on those meters will be extended to 10 p.m., seven days a week.

This will doom cheap alternatives within five minutes' walk of the stadium and put street parking on a par with paying $15 or $20 at nearby parking lots - some of which jack rates as high as $100 for big games, such as the one Friday night against the Dodgers.

Ferry for day games, carpools (share the parking expense)for nights.

The ferry from Larkspur to the stadium is an 18 dollar round trip, and online reservations, which are the only guarantee you will have a spot, cost another $1 per. It's a fun way to go, especially if you're committed to remaining until a half hour after the last pitch, but it's no bargain, especially for a family or group. GG Transit 70/80 line to and fro' Mission and 1st is how we sometimes go. Will miss the days of parking in "our secret spot" and the walk along the water front, by way of Reds Java Hut.
