Laughs Abound at Comedy in the Plaza

With a bill that included Robin Williams, Dana Gould, Rick Overton and Johnny Steele, hundreds enjoy an evening of comedy under blues skies.

 

“Tomorrow I’ll be doing what I’ve always wanted to do as a comic: compete against a sunset.”

Former Simpsons writer and executive producer Dana Gould uttered those words at the weekly comedy night at . It was the , where family-friendly world of the Depot Plaza and the traditional dark, adults-only vibe of comedy clubs meet for one evening of hilarity.

Whether it was the rumors that local legend Robin Williams would show up (he did, joining pal Rick Overton for some improv) or the perfect weather, the turnout was huge, according to Art Commissioner Tony Coyle.

“It’s the biggest crowd we’ve ever had,” Coyle said. “It was an absolutely beautiful evening. I don’t know if people knew about Robin or not, but I told everyone I saw that day. All the comics were funny and that Robin showed up was an absolute bonus.”
