Trio Paces Tam at MCAL Track Championships

McMillan, Brauner, Milechman combine for six individual wins at the MCAL Championships on a day when 14 Red-tailed Hawks and four relay teams qualify for the NCS Redwood Empire meet.

Lilla McMillan, Hallie Brauner and Daniel Milechman led the way Saturday as the Tam High track team took second place in both the girls and boys competitions at the Marin County Athletic League (MCAL) Championships at Novato High.

Eight girls, six boys and four relay teams will represent the Red-tailed Hawks in the North Coast Section Redwood Empire Championships this weekend at Rancho Cotate High.

McMillan was the individual standout for the Tam girls, winning the 100 (11.94) and 200 meters (25.15) and taking second in the long jump (16-10 ½).

She also ran anchor on the winning 4x100 relay team, following Jessica Rasmussen, Samantha Henson and Monica Bi. The Hawks’ winning time was 49.76.

Rasmussen also had a great meet, edging McMillan in the long jump (16-11 ½) and finishing third to her in the 100 (12.69) and 200 (26.43).

Brauner joined McMillan as a double-winner, taking the 100 hurdles (16.22) and 300 hurdles (47.04). She also anchored the 4x400 relay team of Bi, Katie Lee, Nicole Woodworth and herself to fourth place (4:21.11).

Bi (fourth in the 300 hurdles, 50.51) and Lee (third in the pole vault, 10-0) also earned trips to the Redwood Empire meet in individual events, as did Julie Modee (fifth in the 800, 2:34.25), Cate Wilmoth (sixth in the 300 hurdles, 51.94) and Claire Anderson (sixth in the 100 hurdles, 17.91).

It all added up to 98 points for the Hawks, which was second-best to Redwood’s 113 1/3.

The Tam boys totaled 74 points, far fewer than Terra Linda’s winning total of 113. But thanks mostly to Milechman, it was more than anyone else in the league.

The senior distance-running star won both his events – the 1,600 (4:21.07) and 3,200 (9:38.25).

The Hawks also had four second-place finishes -- Dana Mills in the 100 (11.18) and 200 (22.94), Zachary Knight in the triple jump (39-10) and August Kiles in the pole vault (11-6).

Mills also teamed with Rondell Leggett, Haynes Stephens and Justin Lee to place fifth in the 4x100 relay (45.24).

Knight placed in two other events (fourth in the 110 hurdles, 16.51; fifth in the 300 hurdles, 43.85), and Kiles was sixth in the 100 hurdles (17.01).

Also qualifying for the Redwood Empire meet in individual events were Lucas Janetos (third in the long jump, 20-1 ½) and Stephens (third in the 400, 52.57).
