Tam Tennis Stars Square Off in NCS Final Today

Top seed Chelsea Hayashi will meet teammate and fellow sophomore Hillary Fazekas in North Coast Section D-II singles finals.

The Tam High girls tennis team is proving the old adage that it's not how you start, but how you finish.

After struggling with some nagging injuries earlier this season, Tam's top singles player, sophomore Chelsea Hayashi, stormed into the finals of the inaugural North Coast Section (NCS) D-II singles championship Tuesday. In doing so, the second-seeded Hayashi defeated Katrina Allick of University High in San Francisco 6-5, 7-5, and third-seeded Jennifer Budd of Bishop O'Down 6-4, 6-4.

Her teammate and fellow sophomore Hillary Fazekas made it an all-Tam final. The unseeded Fazekas topped fourth seed Grace Fish of University High 6-4, 6-2, and then beat top-seeded Jana Lee of Moreau Catholic 6-4, 6-0.
