Tam Tennis Squad Hopes to Nab NCS Crown Today

With the seventh and deciding match halted for darkness Saturday, Hawks' No. 4 singles player Mia Anderson takes on Monte Vista's Taylor Nielsen for all the marbles today at Tam at 3 p.m.

As the No. 4 singles player on the Marin County Athletic League (MCAL) Tam High girls tennis team, it’s safe to say that Mia Anderson has felt pressure before. But never has she had to chance to stew on that pressure for nearly two days prior to a single-set match that could clinch the North Coast Section (NCS) title for her school.

Tam (27-1) squared off with Danville's Monte Vista (18-4) in th NCS D-I finals Saturday at Santa Rosa High, with Tam's Hillary Fazekas and Lani Tice winning their Nos. 2 and 3 singles matches, respectively, and Tam's No. 2 doubles team of Naomi Arthur and Mikaila Smith winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 to force a tie at three wins apiece.

With the two teams knotted at 3-3, Anderson and Monte Vista's Taylor Nielsen each won a set in their seventh and deciding match. Anderson won the first set 6-4 before Neilsen won the second 6-3.
