girls basketball coach doesn't know anything about his team's first-round opponent Tuesday in the North Coast Section Championships, but he knows a whole lot about its potential quarterfinal foe.

He just wants to make sure his team's focus -- and his own -- is on Albany, which visits Tam on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

"I like our matchup," he said of earning the seventh seed in the 12-team event with an 18-10 record and drawing the 10th-seeded Cougars, 14-11, in the first round. "I'm scrambling now to learn something about them. But getting a game at home is nice."

Evans believes his team is playing its best ball of the season entering the tournament. The Red-tailed Hawks have won eight of their last 11 games, with the lone losses coming against Marin County Athletic League Tournament finalists Marin Catholic and Branson (twice).

While insisting "we don't want to overlook Albany," Evans knows what potentially lies ahead -- second-seeded Campolindo, 21-5. One of those 21 victims was Tam, which hung with the mighty Cougars for three quarters before suffering a 63-41 home loss on Dec. 2.
