Tam Cross-Country Muzzles Bulldogs, Targets Redwood

Defending state champ Dan Milechman crushes the boys field, while the girls sweep the top five.

Tam High's cross-country overpowered San Rafael last week with large numbers and a solid performance on the Bulldogs' home course.

Although San Rafael sophomore Joey Morris took the lead for most of the first mile and led by nearly 50 meters at one point, he couldn't hold off 2009 State Champion Dan Milechman, who won the race by more than 45 seconds.

Milechman wasn't alone. He was followed closely by teammate James MacDonald in second. The Tam boys team took first, second, fourth, fifth, and sixth overall.

That impressive score was topped only by the girls team's perfect first through fifth. The Hawks actually took first through ninth but only the top five count in the score. Although the girls side doesn't have as much of a stand-out as Milechman, the trio of Olivia Heitz, Nicole Ludwig, and Katie Lee led the pack before running away from the competition.
