Slideshow: 101st Dipsea Race

From the jovial start line to the brutal Dipsea stairs to the finish in Stinson Beach, we've got you covered with loads of photos of competitors of all ages.

When the 101st edition of the Dipsea Race kicked off in downtown Mill Valley Sunday morning, the usual jovial spirit was in the air, with emcee Bob Cullinan honoring some the event's distinguished competitors and poking fun at others (he even broke out some spotty Deutsch for two participants from Germany.

At the finish line, it was pure elation for many, particularly for 60-year-old Mill Valley resident Jamie Rivers, who by outlasting 71-year-old Hans Schmid of Greenbrae and 2009 Dipsea champion Brian Pilcher of Ross.

In between was one of the toughest race courses in the country, with competitors ranging from second graders to 85-year-old Roy Harvey from Strawberry, the oldest active Dipsea participant, squaring off in a time-handicapped event that is laden with nuances and complexities.
