NASCAR At The Shore: Where To Catch The Action

A weekly guide to all things NASCAR with a native Shore resident

It's happened: On Tuesday, I officially turned 21. This means I can legally enter the bar scene this weekend! As a NASCAR fan, this couldn't have happened at a better time.

The Sprint Cup Series is in Bristol, Tenn. this weekend for a race that is among the most exciting of the season. This means I'll have a great opportunity to visit local sports bars, and watch the exciting action.

But where are the best places to watch NASCAR racing each week? I'm new to this, but I've done some research, and think I've compiled a decent list of places to catch races.

Most of these locations are a little bit of a ride from Barnegat, but from what I hear, these places are worth a short trip:

  •  APPLEBEES (205 Route 72 W, Manahawkin).  Sure, chain restaurants are over-rated, but Applebees has a great crowd, and decent food. It is, perhaps, one of the most family friendly places to take in the racing action too. With enough monitors around the bar and throughout the restaurant, it's a great idea. Of course, you'll have to choose if you want to head to Manahawkin's Applebees or take the ride up to Lacey's. Personally, I'd prefer the Lacey Applebees.
  • LONGSHOTS (535 Route 9 South, Waretown). This place has it all. It is home to a true sports bar feeling right in Waretown. There are plenty of TV's, and great bar food. They have one-of-kind burgers, and a huge drink menu. Personally, I cannot wait to catch a NASCAR race here (or any sporting event for that matter). If you're looking for me on Sunday, it may just be here.
  • SHARK FIN INN (701 South Main Street Forked River). This is another great family atmosphere. It has a full bar, and a full restaurant. The menu is moderately priced. The TV screens are bound to have NASCAR action on them on a Sunday afternoon, and I am sure they'll have a fun crowd as well. Forked River knows how to party. Plus, the Shark Fin Inn has a lot of country concerts throughout the year, so you know it's going to be a great place to watch the action.
  • FORKED RIVER HOUSE (121 South Main Street Forked River). They say you don't know until you FOHO, and I guess that's true. The Forked River House is a great place to get your game on. It's a little bit of a ride from town, but get yourself a DD and head up to see what the FOHO has to offer. Friends tell me on weekend's that it's one of the best bar scenes around!

Now it's your turn to share your favorite bar/restaurant/place to watch a NASCAR race!

Applebees doesn't care about NASCAR.... Had to ask them to turn one TV on to watch a race last summer....
