THRILL the WORLD : SAUSALITO!

On Saturday, October 23rd, zombies will once again rise up in Gabrielson Park ! The occasion is Thrill the World, a worldwide simultaneous of the Michael Jackson "Thriller" dance for world records and charity,
On October 24th 2009, the Record Holders Republic recognised that 22,596 people in 264 cities across 33 countries were re-enacting the classic music video at once, more than five times higher than the previous highest ever total. The event, created by Canadian choreographer Ines Markelle, is produced locally by musician Mari Mack to raise awareness and funding for her favorite Marin non-profit, The Plant Studios' Artsboretum Project.

During the 2009 Gabrielson Park event, a bevy of boats anchored off the shore and honked while the dancing zombies moved in sync. "It was a blast," Mari states, "but a LOT of work because of last minute on site registration. Thankfully, that has been streamlined - online registration is a available, and we are encouraging as many dancers as possible to PRE-register this year."

"While my personal goal is to raise funding for the Artsboretum, Thrill the World! Sausalito is available for any local non-profit to raise funds, through the power of music and dance," states Mari. "There is no required sign up fee for an organization to participate in our local event  - we've already paid the sign up fee to receive 'official TTW event status.' Dancers choose which organization will benefit from their participation. If they have a favorite non-rofit, they can enter it during registration. It's a really simple, fun and exciting way to make a difference." Non-dancers also have the opportunity to donate to participating non-profits through an "adopt a zombie" online ticket option.

"We had more than 50 dancers last year - we expect a few more (or less) this year. Regardless - it will be fun! "

Rehearsal is also required to participate as a dancer. There are several opportunities to rehearse during "Thrill Week" in Marin - most in Sausalito and a warm up will be held before the big moment, known as "Thrill Time"
