Birds of Bothin Marsh - MEET AT BOTHIN MARSH

Along the west shore of Richardson Bay, Bothin Marsh is an example of what the wetlands surrounding San Francisco and San Pablo Bay looked like before they were channeled, diked, and filled. Waterfowl thrive in the open water, sandpipers and other shorebirds feast on the invertebrates that inhabit the mudflats. Many of these birds are preparing to depart for their breeding grounds to the north; some of them have come from the coasts of Central and South America and are just stopping here to feed before the next leg of their journey. We’ll also look and listen for year-round residents like Clapper Rails and Common Yellowthroats, which feed and breed in the surrounding cordgrass and pickleweed.

This walk is for adults. We request that no animals (except service animals) attend. David Herlocker will lead. Questions: Contact David at (415) 893-9508 or dherlocker@marincounty.org. Heavy rain may cancel. Call (415) 893-9527 on the morning of the walk to hear a recorded message if cancelled.
