Dirt Bowl Turns 10 with 3-on-3 Tourney

Annual organized pick-up basketball league for kids draws more than 100 for tournament at Tam High.

What started out as a way for Kerry Huffman to get his kids out of the house on Saturdays in the summertime has blossomed into a Mill Valley tradition. The Mill Valley Dirt Bowl, an organized pick-up basketball league for kids, celebrated its 10 anniversary last weekend with its annual 3-on-3 Tournament at Tamalpais High School.

The league is held from late June to early August, and games usually take place at the outdoor courts at Mill Valley Middle School. For the 3-on-3 tournament, more than 100 kids from kindergarten to 8th grade participated in the following divisions: Kindergarten-1st grade, 2nd-3rd grade, 4th-5th grade and 6th-7th-8th grade.

Aidan Sugrue, Max Pollack and Spencer Tsuchiyama won the kindergarten-1st grade bracket, while Jack Gerson, Mitchell Zucker and Sammy Blair took home the prize in the 2nd and 3rd grade division.
