After Tough Loss, Mill Valley Little League All Stars Hope to Get Back to Championship Game

Squad loses in the semifinal round to Rocklin, 6-5, and heads back to San Jose Friday evening.

The Mill Valley Little League 9-10 All-Stars had its first setback in its march through the Little League baseball minors divisional tournament earlier this week, but hopes to rebound with a win in the losers bracket Friday evening.

After a pair of wins in San Jose over San Mateo National and Los Gatos last weekend, the squad went into Wednesday's semifinal game against Rocklin with a bevy of momentum.

Mill Valley took the lead on a two-run home run by Sean Loder. But Rocklin was not to be denied. They got to starter Loder for five runs in the 3rd inning, and reliever Harry Mauterer came in and held the opponent to one run. But that run turned out to be the deciding score.

In the top of the fifth, Alex Dargan smacked a three-run home run to shrink the deficit to just one run. In the top of the sixth, Mill Valley's Owen Brass worked a walk and the big mashers came up. Colin Moe drove a ball deep to right, and for a moment it looked like it was going out of the park. But that was not the case, as the right fielder caught the ball 8 feet in front of the fence – game over.

Mill Valley plays Friday in the losers bracket final for the right to play Rocklin again in the championship.
