The has made a point through its of reaching out across the spectrum of local residents, and its has targeted local high students specifically.
The series continued Dec. 1 with an event from Youth Speaks, the burgeoning spoken word organization in San Francisco that seeks to combat illiteracy using poetry. The group was founded in 1996 by James Kass, and working with 45,000 teens per year in the Bay Area alone, with partner programs in 47 cities across the United States.
Check out this video, courtesy the Mill Valley Public Library, of a performance by several spoken word artists at the First Thursday event. The next two First Thursday events are Jan. 5 with "Mischief Managed: Harry Potter Trivia" and February's will be an author visit and Q and A with Amy Reed, the author of the Young Adult novel, Clean. All First Thursdays are open to high school students only.
