Thousands Gather for Memorial Day Kiddo! Celebration

Pancake Breakfast, Memorial Day Parade, Carnival and post-parade party and concert attract swarms of people to toast the 30th birthday of local educational foundation.

Less than 24 hours after a , thousands of Mill Valley residents came together on Memorial Day for a 30th anniversary celebration for Kiddo, the local foundation that has supported art, music, drama, dance, poetry, technology and now physical education programs in the 's six schools since 1982.

The day kicked off with around 1,500 people hitting the  outside the fire station and City Hall on Corte Madera Avenue.

The  followed at 10:30 a.m., with dozens of local officials, organizations and businesses rolling and strolling down Miller Ave. to . Attendees and participants then headed to the fields behind the , where a stellar musical lineup including Tommy Castro & the Painkillers, Danny Click & the Hell Yeahs and The 85's all performed as part of the Kiddo! birthday . The event, organized by the owners of the , feature beer and wine from local vendors.

Across the way on the basketball courts of the Mill Valley Middle School, thousands of kids and parents hit more than a dozen rides throughout the day at the Mill Valley Carnival, which was revived this year for the first time since 2004.

Organizers estimated that around 5,000 people attended the day's dual celebrations. A portion of the Carnival proceeds will go to Kiddo's efforts to reach  this year.
