Suspicious Man by MVMS Causes Police to Increase Patrols in Sycamore Area

The man approached two girls walking to school and "spoke to them in a manner that made them feel uncomfortable."

Two female students reported being approached by a suspicious male in the Sycamore area by Mill Valley Middle School last week, causing police to increase patrols, particularly in the morning.

The separate incidents occurred on Thursday and Friday around 7:30 a.m. when the girls, who are not MVMS students, were walking to school. The man spoke to one girl twice, and another girl once. On Friday Assistant Principal Mark Nelson sent an email to parents informing them of the situation.

“He approached the girls and spoke to them in a manner that made them feel uncomfortable,” Nelson said.

The man is described as Hispanic, between 20-25 years old, with minimal facial hair, and between 5'5"-5'9" tall.  He was reported to be near a silver sedan style car on one of the incidents, Nelson said.

Mill Valley Police Lt. Jacqueline Graf-Reis said there has been no criminal activity, only suspicious behavior, but Mill Valley Police decided to place more officers in the area in case the behavior continues.

“The school just wanted people to be aware,” Graf-Reis said.

Nelson asks that parents share the information with their children, and remind them to stay alert, not talk to strangers and to walk in groups.
