School Calendar Approved: No Snow Days for 2012-13

First day, last day of school outlined, plus holiday schedule for Toms River Regional

The school calendar for 2012-2013 at Toms River Regional Schools is now decided: the first day of school is Wednesday, Sept. 5.

No snow days are built into the schedule for next year, which has 180 days of school.

There's the NJEA convention, when school is closed, Thurs. and Friday, Nov. 8 and 9.

The winter break is from Monday, Dec. 24 to Wed. Jan. 2, when schools reopen. Spring break begins Monday, March 25, and school resumes Tues., April 2.

The last day of school for 2012-2013 is Tuesday, June 18. That's also the day of high school graduation. Intermediate schools will graduate June 17.

The Toms River Regional school board approved the calendar at its regular meeting last night.

I find it odd that there's a professional day the Tuesday before Teacher's Convention. So that means the schools are open Monday and Wednesday that week according to the calendar. Seems a little odd. Why not schedule the professional day for Wednesday?

Thank you Joseph!!! I thought that I was the only one who thought that having the kids go to school on Monday be off on Tuesday and the open again on Wednesday and closed for the long weekend was really stupid. Wouldn't it be more cost effective for the schools to be open on Monday and Tuesday and then close the schools for the three days? Just take a look at the energy bills. And, then again it would make the teachers happy because they would have a week off and they could go away for a mini vacation and it cost them non of their personal days off.

I wouldn't have minded letting my kids walk to school if more drivers in Ocean Co. woke up to the fact that pedestrians have the right of way. Can't tell you how many times we've almost been hit by idiots turning and not letting people cross safely. And let's use a commentary area for another attack on that evil teachers' union. Pulease! True, not every teacher is great, but the majority of them earn every penny they make.

November 6th is election day, the day we get to go and vote down the school budget....ohhh wait....we no longer have any say in the budget unless it goes over the cap, which gives them about 3 million they can raise the budget every year with noone to stop them....moving the school election was a great idea
