Mill Valley Student Nabs $20K Foot Locker Scholarship

Brooke Wenig, who transferred from Tam to Tamiscal this year, is one of 20 students in the U.S. to win award for achievement in academics and athletics.

The 17-year-old Mill Valley resident, who transferred from Tam to Tamiscal High for her senior year, found out this week that she won a Foot Locker scholarship, which recognizes academics and athletics. Wenig's grade point average is 3.98 and she is a cyclist, golfer and lacrosse player.

Wenig must decide between attending the University of California at Berkeley or the University of California at Los Angeles. But either way, she now has a nice chunk of change to help pay for college.

The Foot Locker Scholar Athletes program honors high school athletes for demonstrating academic excellence as well as flexing their hearts on their sports team and in their communities. Wenig founded Project Green Lunch Club, which focused on bringing healthier foods to her school’s cafeteria. She’s also the vice president of Teens Turning Green and Tamiscal’s Environmental Club and gives speeches to inspire others to live healthier, greener lives.
