Library Kicks Off Winter Break Film Fest with 'Cars 2'

Regular film series for kids and parents runs through Dec. 30 and includes such holiday classics as 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' and 'Frosty the Snowman.'

Although this latest stretch of excellent weather certainly helps, parents looking for activities for their kids while school is out on holiday break have the to thank for a kid-centric, mini-film festival of sorts.

The library's children's department kicks off its regular Winter Break Film Festival on Monday with a showing of Pixar's Cars 2. The festival runs through Dec. 30, with all films screening in the library's Creekside Room for free at 2:30 p.m.

For the past eight years, the library has hosted a short film series during winter and spring breaks, as well as at the end of summer vacation. The idea is to show some new-to-DVD movies as well as a few classics, with an emphasis on films based on books.

"The program is a great way to bring kids and families into the library for a fun community experience," said Yolanda Fletcher, the library's children's librarian. "Who doesn’t love a good movie and a bag of fresh popcorn in a darkened room?"

Here's the schedule for the library's Winter Break Film Fest:
