Rubel Castle (also known as Rubelia) is an elaborate five-story castle built of found and reclaimed materials in Glendora, California.  With the help of family and friends, Michael Rubel constructed his castle of concrete, scrap steel, rocks, bedsprings, coat hangers, wine bottles, shovels, tools, railroad ties, chewing gum, old motorcycle tires, sand-filled rubber gloves, a camera, a toaster, salvaged river rock, and other junkyard treasures.

It eventually included the additions of drawbridges, turrets, cannons, and towers. What started as a hobby became a loveable obsession which lasted over 25 years and became one of the first major recycling projects in the United States.
