Era Ends with Tam Girls NCS Soccer Loss

More than just a  girls soccer season ended Wednesday. So did an era.

Seniors , ,  and  saw their high school careers come to an end in the North Coast Section (NCS) semifinals when the Red-tailed Hawks suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to Marin Catholic.

And so the book closes: three Marin County Athletic League (MCAL) titles, two MCAL playoff crowns and a pair of NCS championships.

It was quite a four-year ride.

“Every once in a while you get that rare group of kids,” Tam coach  said in the wake of the defeat. “They won everything. They really had a nice run.”

But now it’s over … at Tam, anyway. Ledger and Rothlind will move on to Division I college soccer – Ledger at Colorado and Rothlind at Cal. Miller, who pondered Ivy League offers, has opted to play her college ball at New York University.

In all, Kennedy loses six seniors from his 17-5-2 team. But that just means a majority of his 19-girl roster returns, and it’s not like the Hawks are conceding anything next season.

“We’ll still be competitive,” the coach promised. “We’ve created a culture over there where we compete. That’s the biggest thing. We’re always going to be a handful for everyone.

“I think we’ll be fine.”

Especially on defense.  and  return in the back, as does goalie . , who assisted on Tam’s goal Wednesday, and  are others expected to headline the new-look Hawks.

“At the end of the day, someone is going to need to step up and be the leader,” Kennedy said. “We’ll see who that is.”
