Eighth Grader Does It All

Elodie Townsend, who has her hands in myriad activities, garners acclaim for her "Dollhouse" photo in the California Scholastic Art and Writing awards.

But it’s safe to say that Elodie Townsend is at the far end of the diversity spectrum.

The 8th grader, a standout student, is a catcher on the Oakland Crossfire, a highly competitive club softball team in the East Bay.

She’s also a bass player in the alternative metal band TheySayFreak.

And she’s involved in the middle school’s Robotic club.

And last but certainly not least, the Scott Highland resident is a budding art photographer, having just garnered Honorable Mention status in the California Scholastic Art and Writing awards. Her photo “Dollhouse” was picked out of 1,700 entries from all over the state.

Her identical twin sister Marley won Silver in the writing portion of the competition a year ago.

“Elodie’s a great kid all around and accepts everyone for who they are and is incredibly open-minded,” school counselor Alison Goodman said.
