Annual ceremony kicks off at 9:30 a.m. We're also looking for stories from veterans and military families.

As the country honors its military personnel through today, Mill Valley Patch will be heading to the ceremonies at the Veteran's Memorial Auditorium at the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael. The event begins at 9:30 a.m. with music, military exercises and a brief address.

Attendees then go to the World  War I, World War II and Korean, Vietnam and Merchant Marine memorials on the Avenue of the Flags. Refreshments are served afterward in the Redwood Foyer.

We're also asking for a local hand in paying tribute to those who served. In the weeks after Veterans Day, Mill Valley Patch intends to spotlight its local veterans and military personnel through a series of profiles on local military families of its own. If you are a veteran or if you know someone who is, or if you are a member of a military family that would like to share its story to honor those who serve in our country's military, please drop me a line at jimw@patch.com.

Finally, please join us in honoring our veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces by donating to our partner charity, the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. In recognition of Veterans Day, Patch is honored to announce its partnership with the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, a five-star charity that provides financial, rehabilitation and transitional services to members of the United States Armed Forces and their families.

Established in 2000, the fund originally provided financial support to the dependents of service members who lost their lives while serving the nation. Since then, the fund has expanded its support of veterans by building state of the art centers for rehabilitating wounded warriors and service members suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries.

Service members and families touched by the Intrepid's efforts reside in our community, and we hope you will consider making a small donation to honor those that have sacrificed so much.
