Students from Tamalpais High School have won the Northern California Mock Trial Invitational. The two-day competition held at The Menlo School in Atherton, featured 10 of the top California teams.

The NorCal tournament — commonly known as the Menlo Invitational — awarded second place to The Menlo School A Team (San Mateo County) and third place to Elk Grove High School (Sacramento County).

Tam High, which earned its record-setting 17th county title in 2012, is working to maintain its streak under the direction of defense lawyer David Vogelstein.

"Fearless joy is what you showed us," Vogelstein told his team after the Jan. 13 awards ceremony. "Today you get to revel in victory. Tomorrow you get to prepare again. This is your baseline. You can do better. You must believe in yourself. Like an athlete, you must perform so well that it scares even you."
