Report: Woolsey to Announce Retirement Next Week

Sources close to the North Bay Democratic congresswoman say she'll announce next Monday that she is retiring after completing her 10th term in 2012.

Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-Petaluma), who has represented Mill Valley and all of Marin in Congress for 19 years and is a staunch anti-war advocate, is leaning toward retiring at the end of her term in 2012, according to a report in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Woolsey, 73, notified the media that she will make an announcement from her Petaluma home on June 27, but the release said nothing about the reason for the gathering. The Press Democrat cited sources close to Woolsey as saying she is retiring next year.

Woolsey serves the sixth district, which includes all of Marin County and parts of Sonoma County. A native of the Pacific Northwest, Woolsey was first elected to Congress in 1992. She maintains an office in San Rafael.
