'Daily Show' Shouts Out 'Marin County Kumbaya Patrol'

In introducing a segment on how a wide range of groups are ready to talk about gun control, Jon Stewart juxtaposes the NRA and the peace-loving ways of many Marin-ites.

"Finally everyone from the NRA to the Marin County Kumbaya Patrol is ready to talk about gun violence, although, to be fair, the Kumbaya Patrol has been ready for quite some time now."

That's how Jon Stewart opened The Daily Show Tuesday night. In the wake of the and the wave of mass shootings in recent months, Stewart sought to juxtapose the recent willingness of the National Rifle Association to talk about gun control with the never-waning willingness of peace-loving folks in, say, Marin, to have that conversation.

Iron Springs Brewery in Fairfax took notice, and today sent out this note on its Facebook page: "Complimentary fries to any one from the Marin County Kumbaya Patrol from Noon-4:00 today."

Thank God someone like me doesn't own a gun. Even cake walks make me furious.

I heard the fries were supreme!

Marin County Kumbaya Patrol is real? Interesting. (Have to stop and laugh a minute at the naked bodies spelling 'NO WAR'. Beautiful actually. 1971 all over again. Love that.) But equating all the nonsense of video games and movie violence to mass murders is more insane than the shooters themselves. Most of them were on heavy anti psychotic drugs and others were 'Monarched' into it, or BOTH! Turning in your guns is the stupidest things Americans could EVER do! Remember, bad guys don't obey the law even when we do...Watch this please: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWbbGJqrHRA

Michael, I completely agree with you. More knee jerk legislation is not what we need. Add to your list are two wars that lasted over a decade. All the war in Afghanistan is doing now is buying up war materials. I expect the government to fall quicker than Saigon after the American pull out. The details of the shooting are still not being fully published. First the brother was the second shooter, then he wasn't. The most recent article I read stated the mother was about to have her son committed and that is what set him off. The mother should have had all of those weapons locked away in a safe. I don't find it acceptable to have six people shot with a revolver, rather than a dozen with a semi-automatic. What really needs to be done is separate the mentally incompetent from firearms. Is anyone talking about what happens if someone in the house, other than the owner, is found mentally incompetent to own a firearm? That is what to appears to have happened. If a felon is living in the same house, the felon must be blocked from having access to firearms and ammunition. Seems reasonable and should be expanded to those who are mentally ill and violent.

My suggestion is that the guns that are bought back, should be given free of charge to those less fortunate who cannot afford to purchase their own guns. Every decent person needs to own a gun.
