What's a "parklet"? And why is it making me hungry?

No, really. I'm serious. Now that I've had a satisfying lunch at Sol Food and visions of dancing cuts of tender pork have been driven from my brain, what's a parklet? How many are we going to get? And where are they going to be?

It's a public space that's created in a parking spot - usually involves a raised platform with planters and seats. There are several in San Francisco and they are looking into creating one in Fairfax. It's all in the very early, conceptual stages, and where exactly it would go is still undecided. I'm hoping to run an article on it early next week.

Thanks again Jessica! If they were considering several spaces, each spot could have its own unique theme like the rooms at the Madonna Inn. Or maybe we would could have floating island spaces that get randomly towed from spot to spot. This could be playfully fun. Why limit ourselves?
