National Weather Service Issues Red Flag Fire Warning for North Bay Hills

Fire danger in the southern Marin hills incites heightened regulations in GGNRA areas, including Tennessee Valley and Homestead Valley.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for hills in the North Bay beginning early Tuesday. The warning, the , is in effect between 6 a.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Winds are expected to shift tonight to offshore flow, bringing warm, dry, strong winds from the interior to the coast. The fire danger will be extreme in the Point Reyes National Seashore and Golden Gate National Recreation Area, including GGNRA areas in Tennessee Valley and Homestead Valley.

All wood and charcoal fires, including grills, are banned in the Point Reyes National Seashore, National Park Service spokeswoman Jennifer Chapman said. Self-contained gas stoves are permitted at designated campgrounds and picnic areas.

All previously-issued fire permits will be null and void, smoking will be prohibited on all park trails and backcountry areas, and Mt. Vision Road will be closed to all vehicle traffic.

Public restrictions also are in effect Tuesday in GGNRA, including the Marin Headlands and Muir Woods National Monument. All fires, including campfires at Kirby Cove, beach fires at Muir Beach, cooking fires and charcoal grills are prohibited except for self-contained, portable gas stoves that are in designated campground and picnic areas.

Smoking is prohibited in all areas of Muir Woods National Monument.
