Viewfinder: Crab Lovers, Would-Be Stars and Rescue Divers

This week's Viewfinder captures an underwater dive team training exercise at Tam High, the annual Crabfest benefit for the Redwoods and an Oscar Party at 142 Throckmorton.

This week's Viewfinder captures an underwater dive team training exercise at Tam High, the annual Crabfest benefit for the Redwoods and an Oscar Party at 142 Throckmorton.

The safety training exercises at the Tam High pool were undertaken by the Marin County Sheriff Dive Team and the Southern Marin Dive Team, which consists of members from the Mill Valley Fire Department and the Southern Marin Fire Department. Dive team leader Matt Bouchard of the Southern Marin Fire Department Dive team said the divers were blindfolded during the exercise to simulate the zero visibility conditions that typically exist in the bay. Divers then had to navigate through a series of tunnels, obstacles, fishing nets and bungee cords while carrying scuba equipment.  Bouchard indicated that the group usually trains in Richardson Bay but that more complicated situations can be safely simulated in the pool.

Also, more than 350 people attended the seventh annual Crab Fest at the Redwoods Saturday for a dinner and silent auction to benefit the Redwood Bus, which provides transportation for the residents at senior living facility in Mill Valley. The guests consumed over 450 crabs.

On Sunday night at 142 Throckmorton, an Academy Awards Party attracted several guests dressed as mnove characters, from the protagonist of True Grit to a Marilyn Monroe look-a-like.
