Two Living Out of Camper Found With Stolen Car, Possible Drug Charges to Come

Miller Hoffman, 29, and Michael McGinnis, 43, both of Bolinas, were arrested Thursday at 7:08 a.m. and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, which was a older Honda parked next to the camper they were in.

Two Bolinas residents thought to be living out of a camper on Ashford Avenue were arrested Thursday at 7:08 a.m. and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle — which was an older Honda parked next to the camper.

Miller Hoffman, 29, and Michael McGinnis, 43, were booked into Marin County Jail, and may possibly face more charges for stolen property and drug related issues, said Mill Valley Police Det. Srgt. Paul Wrapp. The investigation is ongoig.

Having someone call in about a camper parked on the side of the road happens pretty frequently, Wrapp said.

“Usually it’s as simple as warning the people that we have a municipal code [against lodging in public] and they’re advised to move on to a new location,” he said.

But in this case, the caller told police he believed the people in the camper were associated with the Honda parked adjacent to it, and investigators discovered the car was reported stolen out of Santa Rosa.

The owner of the camper, a 43-year-old man from West Marin, was released from the scene.

“We determined him not to be involved with the criminal activity,” Wrapp said. His camper is currently facing mechanical problems, but he’s working on fixing the vehicle and leaving the area as soon as possible, Wrapp said.
