Trio of Police Officers Nab MADD Honors

Mothers Against Drunk Driving recognize three officers, including the late Sgt. Steven Gutsch, for their ongoing work DUI enforcement.

In the nine months since , the has gone to great lengths to honor his work, from private memorials to a photo plaque in the department’s hallway.

Late last month, Gutsch was the recipient of another honor, this time from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), for his DUI enforcement efforts. Gutsch, Officer Kyle Maxwell and Corporal Shaun McCracken were honored by MADD for tallying high numbers of DUI arrests in 2011.

Gutsch made 15 DUI arrests in 2011, while Maxwell made 20 arrests and Maxwell had 8 arrests for his 7 months on the job as a new hire.  As a whole, the department made 59 DUI arrests. The officers efforts were made in conjunction with the Marin AVOID the 13 program, in which agencies participate throughout the county to crack down on DUI enforcement by conducting DUI check points and active roving patrols.
