Tam High iPhone Thefts, Barking Dogs and Who Let the Air Out?

This week's roundup of police activities includes a number of students reported having their phones stolen, as well as a Vista Linda Dr. resident who keeps waking up to the site of flat tires on his cars.

Feb. 21

6:52 p.m. – A resident of Marguerite Ave. asked police to cite a neighbor because of a barking dog. Police responded and did not hear a dog baring but submitted a report to for possible citation.

9:35 a.m. – A student at reported that his iPhone was stolen from the physical education locker room at school on Feb 14. The iPhone was in the student’s pants, which were not inside a locker. 

6:18 p.m. – Police responded to a report of reckless driving after a resident said he was almost hit by a white Ford truck while crossing the street near the on Miller Avenue. The driver of the truck told police that he didn’t make contact with the pedestrian and that the two had exchanged words. Police determined that no crime had been committed.

6:38 p.m. – A man stopped by the to say that he and his friend were traveling from New Mexico and were hungry, hoping that a police officer could direct them to a local homeless shelter. Police provided the man with information on a nearby shelter. 

Feb. 23

10:31 a.m. – A resident of Vista Linda Dr. reported that someone let the air out of the tires on his Toyota Camry and Acura Legend, and that it was the second time someone had done this. The man filed a report.

2:18 p.m. – A resident of Del Casa Rd. called police to report that an unoccupied dark green Ford Explorer that was parked on the road had gone down a nearby hill into some trees. The resident told police that the car likely belonged to a construction worker in the area. 

Feb. 24

5:16 p.m. – A resident of Del Casa Dr. reported that a nearby dog had been barking all day.

10:17 p.m. – A resident of Buena Vista Ave. reported that a nearby dog had been barking intermittently for the past hour in the area of Buena Vista and East Blithedale avenues.

Feb. 25

3:53 p.m. – A resident called police from the to report that his keys a pair of credit cards were stolen from the locker room at the center one day earlier. The keys included his car keys. The alleged thief left behind others keys.

6:52 p.m. – A pair of men got into a fight over an apparent road rage incident at Carmelita Ave. and Crown Court. Police went to the scene and mitigated the issue.

8:20 p.m. – A resident reported that her wallet was stolen from her purse while at Whole Foods market on East Blithedale Ave., with the thief subsequently using three credit cards to the tune of a few thousand dollars. Police took a report.

Feb. 26

6:52 p.m. – A resident reported a reckless and possibly intoxicated driver had parked his GMC pickup in the Whole Foods Market lot on Miller Avenue. Police responded and determined that the driver had not been drinking and that no violation had occurred. 

9:55 p.m. – A resident reported that her Mac Book Pro, valued at $2,500, had been stolen from her unlocked Mercedes Benz in the parking lot at 1 Camino Alto.

11:09 p.m. – A resident reported “loud, pounding music” coming from the Mill Valley Community Center since 8 p.m. Police responded and determined that a cultural event featuring Nepalese music and dance was wrapping up and its participants were preparing to leave. 

Feb. 28

3:54 p.m. – The treasurer for reported that a $1,000 check had apparently been stolen in the mail and cashed at a Citibank. The check had been written by the treasurer and sent to Mission San Rafael Arcángel on Fifth Ave. in San Rafael. Police are investigating.

5:13 p.m. - A resident reported that her daughter, a student at Tam High, had her iPhone stolen for the second time, the first of which she did not report to police but just to school administrators. The latest theft was of an iPhone 4S with a black case.

Feb. 29

6:29 p.m. - The owner of a business at 45 Camino Alto reported that someone came into the business and took his cell phone off the counter two days ago. Police took a report.

March 1

8:19 p.m. – A resident called police to report that a car ran out of gas on Summit Ave. and Madrona Ln. and was blocking traffic. The resident told police that the incident seemed suspicious. Police arrived and determined that the vehicle had been moved off the road and that the car had indeed run out of gas. Its two teenage occupants were walking to a nearby residence up on Summit.

March 2

8:17 a.m. – A resident of Ashford reported an incident of identity theft in which she was contacted by PayPal with a “bill me later”-style letter thanking her for opening an account and saying she owed $850 for three transactions through the payment service. 

6:46 p.m. – A resident brought her daughter to the Public Safety Building, saying the girl wanted to run away. The residents wanted to see if police could counsel the girl about obeying her parents.

March 3

10:22 a.m. – A resident of Woodside Lane reported that a neighbor’s dog had been barking for the past half-hour in what was an ongoing issue that had previously been reported to police.

2:29 p.m. – A shopper at on Camino Alto reported that her purse was open in the store and she noticed that her wallet had been stolen from it. The woman told police that she had just gone to the bank and the wallet had cash and credit cards in it. Store officials said a security camera caught footage of the theft.

3:52 p.m. – A student at Tam High reported that her iPhone was stolen one day earlier at school. Police took a report.

8:32 p.m. – A resident reported that his $2,000 red BMC bike was stolen from the downtown shopping center on Miller Ave., with the thief cutting the bike lock.

March 4

7:59 a.m. – The resident of Vista Linda Dr., who had reported having his cars’ tires deflated in late February, said the same thing happened again overnight. The incident has occurred multiple times in recent weeks, the resident told police. This time the vandal broke the stem on two back tires of his car.

8:50 a.m. – A resident of Monte Vista Ave. reported that someone stole two laptop computers from his home, one belonging to him and another belonging to a house guest. The resident suspected that the thief entered the home through the kitchen door.

12:40 p.m. – A resident of Marsh Dr. called police to speak to an officer about an ongoing issue with a neighbor’s barking dogs. The resident told the officer that the dogs bark everyday from 7 a.m. to 7:15 a.m.
