UPDATED: Ladies Swoon for Good-Looking Thug's Booking Mug

The Stockton Police Department's status on Facebook is getting shared at a viral pace, and we're pretty sure civic mindedness has nothing to do with it.

UPDATE at 9:20 a.m.:  So here's what we've learned about the man TMZ is calling "Dreamy McMug." Jeremy Meeks' mom has started a Go Fund Me campaign to raise money for his defense. So far, she's raised $398. Katherine Angier says the charges are trumped up because he gets stereotyped by his old tats. She also describes him as a working man with a son. "Please help him to get a fair trial or else he'll be railroaded."

Original post:

Swooning was probably not the response one California police department was going for when it posted a photo of a suspect in a gang believed to be behind a recent spate of robberies and shootings.

But swooning is exactly what the Stockton police got when they posted Jeremy Meeks as the, well, poster boy for “Operation Ceasefire” on the department’s Facebook page. Meeks was one of four men arrested this week on suspicion of felony weapon charges, according to an ABC affiliate.

The proud police announcement featuring a pouty Meeks has been shared nearly 2,500 times, and we’re pretty sure it’s not a sense of civic pride in law enforcement sweeping the country.

As Susan Sarandon might say in an '80s flick, “Oh my.”

Or, as today’s Facebookers put it:

"Can Jeremy have visitors? Yum!!"

“We can negotiate the terms of his parole all night long!”

“I'll be in charge of watching him if he's on house arrest.... I'll handcuff him to my bed.”

“See ladies all the good looking men are married, gay or locked up!”

Some on social media, however, are getting a grip and trying to snap the others out of it.

"I had to come to this page and see if it were actually real," wrote one visitor to the police department's Facebook page. "Now that I'm here can't believe what I am reading."

I don't think that many ladies are swooning. Get real.

More proof of the downward spiral society has taken and the kind of news the media is more interested in.

Do you think he likes his salad tossed or with the dressing on the side ?

This is exactly why I don't help women anymore. There have been several times in my life, when I've helped a woman who should never have been in a violent relationship with a thug in the first place. And every time, they've eventually put themselves back into the same situation. Going forward, rather than help, my response will be to laugh. These tramps are not worth it.
