Southern Marin Fire paramedics transport 36-year-old man with multiple injuries, including broken ribs and a collapsed lung, following Wednesday evening high-speed tumble.

A 36-year-old Sausalito cyclist was badly injured when he lost control of his bike on a steep downhill Wednesday evening, careening over a guardrail, slamming into a speed limit sign and flipping down an embankment, officials said.

The cyclist, who was riding at approximately 30mph with another cyclist according to witness reports, was heading down the Lateral Road that connects the Golden Gate Bridge to Alexander Avenue on the way into Sausalito.

Southern Marin Fire Protection District paramedics were called to the scene at 6:39 p.m. and were told that the man, who flipped down a 10-foot embankment, had lost consciousness briefly, according to Southern Marin Fire Battalion Chief Kai Pasquale.
