Police Cross GG Bridge to Nab Alleged Car Thieves

After a woman reported seeing her van being stolen outside her home, Mill Valley Police and Sheriff's deputies chase suspects into San Francisco's Richmond district.

Alleged car thieves led Mill Valley Police and Marin County Sheriff’s deputies on a chase across the Golden Gate Bridge Wednesday night before halting and getting arrested in San Francisco’s Richmond district, police said.

There were no accidents or injuries as a result of the chase, which concluded at Fifth Ave. and Geary Blvd, police said. Three people were taken into custody by police on suspicion of car theft and a host of other charges and booked into Marin County Jail.

The chase, which Mill Valley Police Detective Sgt. Paul Wrapp said reached speeds of around 75 mph, began just after 11:30 p.m. when a resident of Lovell Ave. reported to police that her white Chrysler Voyager van was being stolen from in front of her home.

Police Sgt. Jacob Cuadrez spotted a van matching the description heading east on East Blithedale Ave. toward Hwy. 101, Wrapp said. When the cars entered southbound Hwy. 101, Sgt. Steve Gutsch joined in, and both officers activated their sirens and lights.

The van failed to yield to police, and the chase began. The two officers were joined by Marin Sheriff’s deputies as the van crossed the Golden Gate Bridge and turned onto Park Presidio Blvd. before making its way to the Richmond district. Police said the chase ended at around midnight.

“Eventually, they gave up,” Wrapp said.

During the investigation, police found a stolen Honda on Lovell Ave. in the area of the van theft, and police determined that the car had been stolen from Richmond, Calif., and used to drive to Mill Valley.

Police said that other possible undisclosed stolen property was found in both vehicles.

Donald Rocky Nunez, a 20-year-old San Pablo resident, received the bulk of the charges, including possession of stolen property, vehicle theft, evading police, possession of burglary tools and conspiracy.

Lauren Glynna Gluck, an 18-year-old resident of San Francisco, was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property and conspiracy, while Kevin Hohman, a 29-year-old Richmond resident who listed his occupation as a mechanic, was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property, conspiracy and possession of burglary tools.

All three remain in custody, with Nunez on $35,000 bail and Gluck and Hohman on $10,000 bail apiece.
