Police Blotter: Sept. 13-19

Thefts, scams and an assortment of oddities highlight the past week's of police activities.

September 13

10:38 a.m. – A resident reported that two men approximately 70 years old who appeared to be drunk were yelling rude comments at her and her children in the area of Valley Circle and Tamalpais Commons Lane. An officer went to the area but was unable to locate the subjects.

6:48 p.m. – A resident of Shelter Bay Avenue called to complain that her neighbors were dumping an unknown liquid substance into the water. The caller took a sample to provide to police and said this is an ongoing problem with the neighbors.

September 14

7:42 a.m. – A resident reported that his son’s bicycle was vandalized the day before between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., with the back wheel being ripped off and the tire tube twisted.

September 15

7:31 a.m. – A resident of Roque Moraes Drive complained of a loud humming sound in the area, and a second neighbor did the same. Police investigated and determined it was a vacuum truck at Mill Valley Middle School vacuuming sediment from a wet well located to the rear of the school.

9:44 a.m. – A resident called police to report that she was sitting outside Safeway Market the night before and two men approached her asking for money. As she reached into her pocket, a commotion in her periphery involving some dogs caught the woman’s attention and one of the men stole her credit card, she said. A Marin County Sheriff’s deputy later notified the woman that had a suspect in custody and had secured her credit card.

1:12 p.m. – A resident report that the catalytic converter was stolen from his vehicle between 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the parking lot at .

September 16

3:56 p.m. – A resident of Throckmorton Ave. reported receiving a number of phone calls claiming that she won some money but that she first had to send $100 in order to receive the winnings. The woman told police that she sent $100 via Express Mail to an address in Las Vegas but later suspected it was a scam. A police officer informed the woman that was indeed a scam and advised her to stop delivery on envelope.

6:17 p.m. – A resident called police to report that a man was sitting in Bayfront Park drinking wine, which he did every Friday at the dog park before driving away intoxicated. A police officer responded and contacted the man and determined he was no intoxicated. 

September 17

9:50 p.m. – A resident of Eucalyptus Knoll reported hearing a woman screaming for help. The caller said she didn’t see anything or hear anyone else – just one woman screaming for help. Police responded and contacted the woman and determined that she locked herself out of her home and was (loudly) asking for help from passersby.

September 18

9:17 p.m. – A resident of West Blithedale Ave. reported a large number of high school teens arriving to a party at a nearby home. Officers responded and dispersed the large group. They also contacted the party host’s father, who was returning from Sausalito.  The host’s mother was in New York. All of the teens left the area and both parents were advised of incident. 

September 19

12:05 a.m. – A resident reported seeing a man unconscious in a car in the area of E. Blithedale and Sunnyside avenues, slouched over partially in the car. An officer responded and found a man who had been drinking. The man was arrested for public drunkenness and taken to Helen Vine Detox Center in San Rafael.

12:12 p.m. – A resident of the 600 block of East Blithedale Ave. reported that someone entered her car and stole her laptop, leather case and makeup.

2:31 p.m. – A resident was checking out the creek behind Starbucks at Camino Alto and Miller Ave. and reported finding needles and alcohol, personal items and condoms. An officer responded and disposed of the alcohol and other trash items at the scene. The officer took numerous syringes to the Public Safety Building for disposal.
