Police Blotter: May 3 – 23

We scoured the past three weeks of police activities for the highlights and lowlights, from burglaries and a tea-related political disagreement to a snake bite, unsolicited mani/pedis and fatal cruelty to a baby duck.

Tuesday, May 3

(Burglary Report) An office in the 600 block of East Blithedale Ave. was broken into overnight, and the owner reported it at 7:02 a.m. Someone apparently threw a rock through the front window of the office, went through some drawers and stole $80 from inside a cash box. Police said that blood was found on the counter and they are investigating.

(Penal Code Violation) At around 8 a.m., a fight broke out between two students at . The students were detained in the school office and a police officer responded and cited both of them for fighting on school grounds.

Wednesday, May 4

(Assist Fire) A resident called police at 1:05 p.m. from to report a burning smell coming from the walls, like rubber or plastic but the wall wasn’t hot. An officer responded and said, “Smells like coffee to me.”

(Vandalism) A woman who set up a political table outside the and reportedly caused quite a stir. The woman called police at 4:11 p.m. to report that a man poured iced tea all over her table because he didn’t agree with the point that was being made. The woman provided police with a description of the man and told police that she wanted to press charges. Police were unable to locate the man. Three hours later, a man called police to report that a woman set up a table outside the Depot earlier in the day and it featured posters depicting President Obama made up to look like Hitler. The caller was very upset and wanted police to explain why the woman was not forced to leave the area.

Thursday, May 5

(Lost Property) At at around 10 a.m., someone stole a wallet from a woman’s purse. The purse had been on the floor near her chair. The wallet contained credit cards, a driver’s license and $30. The caller was gone when police arrived.

(Welfare Check) A 6-year-old boy walked onto the field at Tam High at 1:09 p.m., drawing the attention of school officials. The boy said that his parents were picking him up at 5 p.m. The officials called police, saying that the boy didn’t know his address and that they would stay with the boy until police arrived. An officer was able to determine where the boy attends school, and reunited the boy with his grandfather, who was admonished for leaving a child and possible endangerment.

(Petty Theft) A woman reportedly stole a $400 Italian scarf from at 5:52 p.m., taking off in a vehicle towards West Blithedale or Buena Vista avenues. Police were unable to find the woman.

(Burglary Report) Someone broke into the storage unit at Public Storage, stole a number of items and replaced the lock on the unit, according to police.

Friday, May 6

(Miscellaneous Code Violation) A resident called police at 8:04 a.m. to report that the creek water near the La Goma bridge was cloudy. The caller thought that someone was dumping in the stream. A police officer met the caller at the bridge and determined that the water was simply muddy – no merit to report of dumping in the stream.

(Lost Hiker) A couple hiking towards the water tower above Scott Valley got separated, and the husband called police from Camino Alto and Overhill Road at 5:01 p.m. worried about his wife’s welfare. The caller followed up that he’d heard from his wife and she was fine.

(Informational) A resident near called police at 9:50 p.m. to report that a vehicle was driving from the upper playground to the lower playground at the school and that it seemed suspicious. The dispatch operator let the caller know that the vehicle was a police patrol car.

Sunday, May 8

(Vehicle Tampering Report) Someone stole gas from a car at Edgewood Avenue and Sequoia Valley Road at around 10:16 a.m., according to police. The driver called police to report that the car had no power steering fluid and there was liquid under her vehicle. The hubcaps had been taken off but were still near the car.

Tuesday, May 10

(Found Property) While he was readying a patrol vehicle for duty at the , an officer noticed that dentures were in the back seat. Police were unable to determine to whom the denture belonged.

(Assist Citizen) An employee of the Chevron gas station reported at 7:01 a.m. that someone drove away with the fuel nozzle still inserted into the gas tank. The employee didn’t have a description of the car or a security camera, but valued the lost gas and nozzle at $1.500.

Friday, May 13

(Suspicious Circumstance) A resident of Seaver Drive came to the police station at 1:29 p.m. to report that she believed that all of her lines of communication are being compromised, including home phone, cell phone, computer, email and TV. A police officer offered advice that was refused.

Saturday, May 14

(Burglary Report) A resident called police at 9:18 a.m. after walking by a business on Lomita Drive that had the front door glass busted out. A police officer responded and contacted the business owner. Police determined that the case may have been related to a similar case nearby that was being handled by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.

(Vandalism Report) The owner of a business on the 600 block of E. Blithedale Ave. reported to police at 5:17 p.m. that the rear window of his business had been broken. Nothing was taken but the owner wanted to file a report for the vandalism.

(Petty Theft Report) A resident of Lovell Ave. called police at 8:26 p.m. after noticing that the bronze caps on nearby fire hydrants were missing. Police determined that the alleged theft was part of a rash of thefts of the bronze caps from fire hydrants in the area over the past month.

Sunday, May 15

(Petty Theft Report) A woman called police at 2:37 p.m. to report that her backpack was stolen from the the previous night. The backpack contained $700 in cash, $200 money order and a check.

Tuesday, May 17

(Assist Law Agency) Police located a man that Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputies were looking for at the on Redwood Highway at 2:50 a.m. The man was suspected of strangling and attacking his girlfriend the day before and was expected to fly out of SFO that day. Mill Valley officers located the man and held him for Sonoma deputies, who then transferred the man to Sonoma County jail.

(Burglary Report) A woman who owns a business on the 500 block of Miller Ave. called police at 11:44 a.m. to report that sometime between Friday and this morning, an unknown subject broke glass to gain access to her business. 

(Battery) An assistant principal at Tam High called police at 1:51 p.m. to report that two male students were fighting on school grounds.

Wednesday, May 18

(Assist Medical) A 10-year-old student at was bitten by a beige-and-green snake at around 12:45 p.m. The snake had an arrowed-shaped head, according to the report. The boy was OK and did not require medical transport. 

Thursday, May 19

(Burglary Report) Someone broke into a car sometime over night on Eucalyptus Knoll and stole a large drum set, sunglasses and a hands-free device, among other items, police said. The car owner said that he was certain that he locked the car.

(Suspicious Circumstance) A man was approaching women in the area of Depot Plaza and Sunnyside Ave. and asking them if they wanted foot massages, according to reports. One woman was approached more than once, police said. An officer contacted a man in the area and was told that the man was offering mani/pedi services. Police determined that no crime had been committed but advised the man not to approach women offering unsolicited services. The man agreed to stop doing so.

Monday, May 23

(Juvenile Disturbance) A resident called police from the area around at 5:44 p.m. to report that two young males were throwing rocks at birds and appeared to have a BB gun. Police officers responded and found that the juveniles had killed a baby duck. Both subjects had backpacks with hunting knives. Police arrested both subjects for theft and animal cruelty and were released to the custody of their parents. Report on file.
