Police Blotter: Feb. 9-14

Theft, intoxication and more theft highlight this week's roundup of police activity.

Wednesday, Feb. 9

(Suspicious Circumstance) A resident of Fairway Drive called police at 3:54 a.m. to report being woken up by strange noises that sounded like something falling in the basement. The caller said that the home’s burglar alarm was off. Police responded to the house and found a heavy cabinet door  had fallen open, causing several framed photos to fall to the floor.

(Grand Theft Report) A resident had his Specialized bicycle stolen from in front of his house on Valley Circle. He reported the theft at 4:31 p.m., stating that the bike’s lock had been cut. The estimated value of the bike was $3,000.

(Suspicious Circumstance) After arriving at her home on Midhill Drive at 10:54 p.m., a woman who lives alone said she found her front door open. The woman called police and waited for an officer to arrive before entering the house. An officer responded and found an apparent oversight by a contractor, who had left the from door open.

Thursday, Feb. 10

(Parking Complaint / Violation) A parent of a Park School student reportedly parked in a red zone outside the school, blocking the driveway of a resident of Catalpa Avenue, at around 9 a.m. The resident called police and said she’s been waiting 10 minutes for the car to move. An officer gave the driver a parking ticket and then the driver moved the car.

(Advice to Citizen) A resident of Sycamore Avenue called police at 10:58 a.m. to report that she had filed a change of address form with the U.S. Post Office on Dec. 5 and that her estranged husband went to the post office and changed her forwarded address again. A police officer provided the woman with advice.

(Grand Theft Report) A resident of Park Avenue reported at 2:59 p.m. that he had his bicycle stolen sometime in the past two days. He didn’t have a serial number for the bike, but valued it at $500.

(Assist Citizen) A man accidentally locked himself inside a storage unit at the Public Storage facility on Redwood Hwy. at, around 9 p.m. His wife called police, saying that the keypad was not working. An officer responded and got the gate open.

(Burglary Report) A resident of Sycamore Avenue reported at 11:38 p.m. that he came home and found the back door open and noticed cigarette smoke in the house and boxes moved in the closet. The man said that a number of items were stolen, including electronics and jewelry, with an estimated value of approximately $3,000 to $5,000. There was no sign of forced entry.

Friday, Feb. 11

(Driving Under the Influence) An employee at 7-Eleven on Miller Ave. called police at 8:50 pm. to report an alleged drunk driver. The man reportedly left his car running outside the store and repeatedly came in and out of the store. The man then drove off, and police responded but were unable to locate a car matching the description provided.

(Public Intoxication) Police were called to Tam High at around 9:30 p.m. on a report that a teenage girl was extremely drunk and was very pale. The girl reportedly ran off when police arrived, but officers later found her.

Saturday, Feb. 12

(Petty Theft Report) A resident of Longfellow Road called police at 6:33 p.m. to report that, sometime between Feb. 4 and Feb. 11, someone stole a GPS device from her the glove box of her unlocked her car. A Marin County Sheriff’s deputy had called the woman to inform her that the GPS unit was found in the possession of a suspected burglar in San Rafael. The deputy told the woman that she needed to report the unit stolen first.

Monday, Feb. 14

(Stolen Vehicle Report - Recovery) Police recovered a stolen vehicle in the Ring Mountain Day School parking lot at 2:40 a.m. Police identified the vehicle, which had its driver-side window down, stereo removed, plastic stripped from steering wheel, catalytic converter ripped out and three surfboards stolen. Police notified the jurisdiction where the car was reported stolen.

(Petty Theft Report) A customer at Starbucks called police at 3:35 p.m. to report that his $150 sunglasses were stolen from his backpack.

(Defrauding an Innkeeper) An employee of Verde Salon called police at 4:09 p.m. to report that a woman walked out without paying for $200 worth of service. An officer responded and was told that the woman had refused to pay because she wanted a discount because the caller was sick last week when she had an appointment. The employee told police that she didn’t want prosecution, just restitution. The customer had been talking about her medication and said she wanted to go to a quiet place before walking out of the salon. An officer contacted the customer, who said she would contact the salon to arrange payment.

(Driving Under the Influence) A resident of Nelson Avenue reported at 7:02 p.m. that a car had just hit her two parked cars. An officer responded and found two suspects who appeared to have been drinking. The driver reportedly failed a sobriety test and was cited for driving under the influence.
