Police Blotter: Feb. 1-7

A suspicious sunbather, a vagrant gardener and a four-hoofed burglar highlight this week's worth of police activities.

Tuesday, Feb. 1

(Miscellaneous Code Violation) A resident called police from Hauke Park at 2:29 p.m. to report that there were five large dogs off-leash near the playground, and that he felt he needed to take his small children away from the area as a result. A police officer contacted the dog owners and advised them of the law requiring that dogs be kept on a leash.

(Suspicious Person) Someone called police from Ring Mountain Day School at 3:27 p.m. to report that a man who wasn’t wearing a shirt was looking down on children playing outside the school, An officer contacted the man, who is a nearby resident sunbathing in his yard. No crime had been committed.

Wednesday, Feb. 2

(Burglary in Progress) A 90-year-old resident of Laverne Avenue who lives alone called police at 12:11 a.m. to report that someone was trying to break into his home through the front door. An officer contacted the man, who said he didn’t see anything but heard pounding. The man did note that the noise could have been deer on the porch eating his plants, which has happened in past. The officer checked inside and outside of house and found nothing disturbed.

Thursday, Feb. 3

(Suspicious Person) A resident called police at 4:26 p.m. to report that while she was driving down Lomita Drive, she saw a man sitting up on the hill above the Ring Mountain Day School looking at the children, sitting in a lawn chair with a dog. The caller told police that the man looked suspicious, but police replied that an officer had already investigated the claim of the sunbather and found no merit.

Friday, Feb. 4

(Lost Hiker) A lost hiker called police from a trail near the Mountain Home Inn at 7:12 p.m. to say that she took a wrong turn, is alone and is concerned because it’s dark. The woman also said that her cell phone was about to lose power. Police, Marin County Sheriff’s deputies, Mill Valley fire and parks officials were called to the scene. They found the woman and helped return her to her vehicle.

(Public Intoxication) An officer on routine patrol spotted five male juveniles on Janes Street at Molino Avenue at 10:31 p.m. with a large white trash bag. The officer contacted the teens and determined that they had been drinking and that the bag was full of empty beer cans. The juveniles were cited and released to their parents.

Saturday, Feb. 5

(Suspicious Circumstance) Two women, one of whom was wearing snakeskin pants, reportedly stole a pair of designer sunglasses from a store on Throckmorton Avenue downtown at 2:06 p.m. The caller provided physical descriptions of the women but police were unable to locate them.

Monday, Feb. 7

(Battery Report) A nurse from Marin General Hospital called police at 12:04 p.m. to report that a Mill Valley Middle School student was in the emergency room at the hospital with his parents after being assaulted at school. School officials are continuing with their investigation of the incident.

(Suspicious Circumstance) A resident of the 800 block of E. Blithedale Avenue called police at 12:24 p.m. to report that she had just returned home and saw a vagrant casing the home of her neighbor two doors down. The caller provided a physical description of the man  and said he was looking into the windows of the neighbor’s home. Police contacted the man, who was a gardener doing yard work for the neighbor.
