Police Blotter: August 10-16

A noisy saw, a fake spine, and an unwelcome house guest take the cake for the week that was in Mill Valley.

Tuesday, Aug. 10

(Suspicious Person) at 4:00 am. Caller reported at 4am that a man and a woman were taking items from a building on Camino Alto. Officers contacted subjects, who stated they were taking items they had purchased. The building owner confirmed story.

(Advice to Citizen) A resident of Miller Ave reported at 11am that she suspected that a person staying at her home was trying to steal her identity. The woman asked for advice and an officer provided identity theft information packet and an incident number.

(Vehicle Code Violation) On routine patrol on the 500 block of Miller Ave. at 11:15am, an officer pulled over a driver for registration. Officer ran the driver's information in the system and discovered false registration tabs and that the driver had no license. The driver was cited and released.

(Suspicious Person) At Cascade Drive and Throckmorton Ave., the same place Italian visitors accidentally spooked a resident last week  by asking her about the so-called Trailside Killer of the early 1980s, a caller reported to police at noon that a man on a path near the creek was carrying a serrated knife. The caller saw the subject climb into the trees and said she thought it was suspicious. Officers searched the area and found the man sitting in a vehicle. The man said he was simply washing his utensils in the creek and police determined that there was no merit to the call.

Wednesday, Aug. 11

(Suspicious Circumstance) A woman called police at 2pm to report that she believed that two men at the Whole Foods Market on Miller Avenue attempted to pick-pocket her. Report on file.

(Non-Injury Accident) A bicyclist was riding on the sidewalk near the Wells Fargo Bank on Miller Ave. at 3:45 pm. when a car pulling out of the bank driveway hit the bicyclist, damaging the bike's front tire. The rider was unharmed, and the parties exchanged information.

Friday, Aug. 13

(Suspicious circumstance) A resident of Locust Ave. called police at midnight to report that his son had friends over for a BBQ. The man went upstairs to take a nap and when he came downstairs he noticed his wallet with $200 cash was missing as well as all his credit cards. Caller said he felt groggy like he was possibly drugged. The man said his son was not home but that there was some kind of argument and his son kicked out everyone. Officers responded to the scene but there was no answer at the door or on the phone.

(Suspicious Circumstance) A resident of Elm Avenue called police at 3pm to report that he had just broken up with his girlfriend and that suspected that she would try to go into his house and steal something. The man was calling from Sonoma and said he suspected the girlfriend would try and access his house via the dog door. Police checked the house and found no evidence of a break-in or crime.

(Advice to Citizen) Eton Way at 1:00 pm. Caller cannot open her front door and she had it repaired but it still doesn't work. Caller wants officer to come out and confirm that she can't open her front door. Officer advised caller to use slider not front door and also to get another locksmith.

(Miscellaneous Code Violation) A doctor called police from outside the Mill Valley Post Office at 1:30pm because he was upset that a chiropractor was peddling his "false medicine" in front of a federal facility. Caller said the man had a sandwich board with a fake spine set up. Officer responded but was unable to locate the chiropractor.

Sunday, Aug. 15

(Public Intoxication) On a routine patrol on Ryan Avenue at 4:30am, an officer spotted a man on the street, made contact and determined that the subject was intoxicated. There was no room at the Helen Vine Detox Center in San Rafael. The man was charged with public intoxication and violation of probation and taken to county jail.

(Warrant Arrest) Officers contacted a man at Oakdale Avenue & Gardner Street at 9am and arrested hi on an outstanding $15,000 warrant with Marin County.

(Miscellaneous Code Violation) A resident of Wordsworth Court called police at 3:15pm because his neighbor was using a noisy table saw and other construction equipment. The caller wanted police to enforce the local noise ordinance but didn't want any contact in person. Police advised the neighbor, who was new to the area, of th municipal code.

(Shoplifting Report) The store manager of Safeway called police at 4:15pm to report that a female subject in the office attempted to take alcohol, soup and lunchmeat with a total value of $9. The subject called a friend to come and pay for the items she was eating in the store. Manager wanted the officer to advise and admonish subject. No arrest was made.

(Burglary in Progress / Just Occurred) A man reported to police at 7:45pm that he saw a man smash his car window and steal a DVD player from it. The man followed the subject, who got into a cvar being driven by someone else. The man provided a description of the vehicle and the direction of travel, and police apprehended the subjects, who are residents of Solano County. The subject was booked into county jail and the vehicle was towed.

Monday, Aug. 16

(Public Intoxication) A resident of Eldridge Avenue called police at 5am after an unknown man opened their unlocked front door, waking his wife, who was asleep on the couch. The man said he pushed the subject out and shut the front door. Officers arrived and contacted the man on a sidewalk nearby and arrested him for public intoxication. The man was booked into county jail.

(Vandalism Report) A resident of Ryan Ave. reported to police that his house had been egged the night before, and that it wasn't the first time. The man said it's been an ongoing problem, and it always occurs around 10pm. The resident asked police to add an extra patrol to his street.

(Simple Assault Report) A woman told police that another woman she knows grabbed her last night at Piatti's Restaurant at 1:00 pm. and began yelling at her. The caller wasn't physically hurt but said she has a history of not getting along with the other woman.

(Fraud Report) Lee Street at 3:15 pm. A resident of Lee Street reported to police at 3:15pm that she reported identity theft in March of last year and just came across several tax returns and bank accounts opened under her name and Social Security number. Caller said that she has the name and address of subject in Georgia that stole her identity. Report on file.
