Police Blotter: Aug. 23 - 28

An empty but valuable purse was stolen, bathrooms in parks were locked and the report of a young couple moving stones to block the flow of Cascade Falls in this week's roundup of police calls.

August 23

10:16 a.m. – Vehicle accident between a scooter and a FedEx truck at Kipling Drive & Seaver Drive.  No injuries.  Information exchanged between both parties. 

3:50 p.m. – A caller from the 600 block of E. Blithedale Avenue reported her debit card information was stolen and approximately $800 was stolen.

August 24

12:30 a.m. – On routine patrol an officer sees a subject in a vehicle on the Redwood Highway frontage road.  Officer makes contact with male subject who is identified as a private investigator (retired LAPD) working a local case.  Subject given exemption for the night.

6:55 a.m. A caller on Shelter Bay Avenue reported someone parked in his spot and put the caller’s bicycle on the back of his vehicle.  Caller confronted the person who then took the bicycle off his vehicle and took off.  Caller would like an officer to respond as his bicycle lock was cut and wants documentation.

9:43 a.m. – A caller at Glen Drive found two old shotguns and two small caliber rifles while cleaning out her father’s house.  She would like an officer to pick them up.  Officer responded and took several firearms for destruction. 

August 25

12:42 a.m. – A caller reported a male in the bushes at the Mill Valley Community Center wearing tan shirt and pants with a ponytail.  Officers respond and do an area check.  Caller possibly saw a building maintenance worker.  Unable to locate male.

4:10 p.m. – A woman on Miwok Way reported that within the last hour an ex-friend poured water into her plasma TV worth $500. 

6:34 p.m. – Officer makes a routine traffic stop for speeding at Tamalpais High School.  The driver was a teenager who gave the officer false identification.  The driver was cited and released..

August 26

9:46 a.m. – A woman on Ryan Avenue had her purse taken from her unlocked vehicle yesterday.  Approximate value of purse is $600 but no cash was inside and credit cards were not used.

11:08 a.m. – A woman at the Whole Foods parking lot reported a man sitting in a van taking pictures of her.  When she looked back at him, he left but she had his license plate and vehicle make.  Officer contacted caller who said she was unsure if man was taking pictures as she only saw a cell phone in his hand.  But caller thought he looked suspicious and police should be aware.

3:29 p.m. – Anonymous caller stated there are two females with children begging for money outside the post office.  Caller watched them for about 20 minutes and was concerned for the children. Caller said the little children are being exposed to too much sun and the older child should be in school.  Officers unable to locate.

August 27

8:51 a.m. – Anonymous caller has noticed a 30ish male subject every day near her house on the Tender Foot Trail.  Caller thinks he is living near the trail and feels he is suspicious.  He had a strange conversation with her house sitter a few weeks ago.  Officer looks in area for anyone matching description and is stopped by two hikers also describing the suspicious person.  Officer contacted the subject who lives with his mother on Summit.  Subject states he hikes the area everyday.  No merit.

12:09 p.m. – Caller is relaying second-hand information from her daughter that there is a possibly human leg sticking out of a recycle bin on Hazel Avenue.  Caller said it could be fake but there was blood showing.  Before officer could be dispatched, caller called back to say daughter spoke to neighbor and it is a fake plastic foot hanging from the recycle bin.  No merit.

11:23 p.m. – A caller at Piatti’s Restaurant reports there are 3 or 4 vehicles out front that shouldn’t be there.  Caller wants to leave and go home but wants the vehicles checked out first.  Officer responds and contacts subjects in 3 vehicles – 4 male subjects smoking cigarettes.  No merit.

August 28

10:00 a.m. – Caller is at Old Mill Park and needs the bathroom unlocked.  Officer is on their way with the key.

10:37 a.m. – Officers respond to an alarm call at a residence on Tartan Road.  Officers check outside perimeter and homeowner arrives home and requests an interior check of the house.  Officers determine that helium balloons in the dining room set off the alarm.

1:41 p.m. – Caller reports all the bathrooms are locked at Boyle Park and is requesting police unlock/open them.  Officer respond to unlock bathrooms.

7:43 p.m. – A woman and her daughter went on a hike and got lost but found their way back to the street at E. Blithedale Avenue & Camino Alto.  But they are far away, probably 2.5 miles from where they parked their vehicle and the cab company said it would take 2 hours for them to get picked up.  Caller wants to know if an officer can give them a ride to their vehicle.  Officer arrived and honored the request.

August 29

2:38 a.m. – On routine patrol, an officer sees a vehicle with a computer tower and keyboard underneath on Miller Avenue.  Officer stops and contacts subject sleeping in vehicle.  Subject is from Pennsylvania and has been reported missing.  Officer ascertains that subject is mentally/physically all right and informs of municipal code against sleeping in a vehicle.  Officer provides list of county services and contacts subject’s mother to let her know her son is okay.  Officer takes subject out of missing persons database. 

10:05 a.m. – Caller thought a bottle of Clorox bleach placed on a bench in the 300 block of E. Blithedale Avenue seems suspicious.  A motor officer told the caller the bottle fell off a work truck earlier today and was moved to side of road.  Fire department will handle.

7:04 p.m. – Caller said there is a young couple above Cascade Falls moving a lot of stones around trying to stop the water.  Caller was concerned that they may redirect the water. She asked the couple to stop but they didn’t respond.  Officers respond but couple was gone on arrival.  Water flow looks normal.
